Silence Waiting by Jesemie's Evil Twin

Scully's back from Africa, Mulder's still recuperating from when they tried to switch his brain with CSM's.

To welcome themselves back to "normality" Mulder drags up a casefile that doesn't remotely smell of paranormal bouquet he so fondly looks for - but somehow, amongst the rouble of small town America they find a "Rain King" like relationship that mirrors what Mulder experienced in Amor Fati.

The whole story is a juxtaposition: a tale of 2 couples.  )

I'd read it more for the writing and the prose. The almost poetic like quality and clear intent with which JET describes certain scenes. It's neither suspenseful nor action filled. It's angsty and you just need to go for the ride.

The sort of thing you read when your in-between action filled fanfiction series. Not the main meal, not the weekend party, but perhaps the Tuesday afternoon-tea break. Calm before the storm.

I don't know what it is but once I've read something I simply love to discuss it. There's no one to talk to in RL so here I am on the (I was going to write LJ but it isn't really LJ anymore is it) journal banging it out.

I don't have a single XF icon anymore since I deleted the lick picture. Why on earth did I do that? Coffee cups it is.

So.

Lets review: The Way Things Are by Sukie Tawdry

I'm a midwife (and an RN but my brain is midwifery these days). I wasn't one the first time I read all these fanfics, so any babyfic or familyfic back then, I read happily in my guiltypleasure bubble and just enjoyed them without looking deeply.

I have to say, there were only 2 minor things that irked me with this story (no one measures a fundal height at 10 weeks, I don't think you can even palpate it, from 20 weeks onward we would. Also you can't use a stethoscope to listen to a fetal heart that's akin to listening to a radial pulse with a stethoscope. If she wrote pinnard I would have been "someone read the textbook" doppler would have been bang on) -- but the birth scene was fine as it was, so I forgave Sukie immediately, and more so with that cute ending.

It does capture M and S of the early days quite nicely with a twist (the baby twist) and the guiltypleasure box is defiantly ticked by this story.

Full storyline in a nutshell )According to gossamer, this fic was the only thing listed as having been written by her. I find that surprising.

I gave smutt an A because the way she wrote it, suited the story to a T, wasn't overbearing  (There's a way -- for example, had me trying hard not to scroll through some sections because it started to get repetitive) - and matched the developments in the story.

I took 7 weeks off prior to starting the midi program in June of 2019. I should have been re-reading fanfic back then! It would have been a largely different experience.

Woke up at 4:44 again

why is it that when I don't need to get up early (aka. can use the extra time to enjoy whatever I like) I do, with no alarm.

And when I have work I'll be in a half sleep right until the alarm goes off?

All I wanted to do today was sack on out the couch  with the rain outside. Clean a little. and drink a lot of tea. Do some laundry.

Today I read "Failure to Die" By Kel thanks to a rec on

"Failure to Die" by Kel
Written by someone who defiantly works in the hospital setting, made me want to re-watch E.R. again.
I was 13-14-15 when I was an E.R. fan, and I do remember going to Dymocks and reading the medical text books to understand the terms on the show. The creator,  was a doctor himself - Micheal Crichton who wrote novels to pay for medical school also wrote Jurassic Park (what a brain).  Kel is a brain too, as I'd categorise it as comedyfic reminscent of episodes like "The Amazing Melanie"

And finally back to finishing off

"There's a Way" by Andrea
Barely more than PWP, this is parent smutt at its best. Andrea really pushes the boundaries as to how many sex scenes she can squeeze into a story. If there's a reason to do it - or even no reason at all - she's found a way to include it. The original character of Andrew and Leigh make it interesting. To contrast the fantastic work I read this morning; the medical bits were written by someone who clearly didn't do their research ... and has no idea. When will people learn that you can't figure out a woman's fertility status from a "so called" internal exam"?
Makes me think of how all those poor girls got raped and sexually abused by the Team USA Gymnastics coach Larry Nasar.

I digress, its basically porn with plot. Even though its not completed (and last part was posted not that long ago either--- 2016) it ends in a really nice place.

It took me 10 hours of straight reading to get to the end of these two, but I'm really glad I made it through.

So I was trolling through the Whispers of X archives. I'm almost done with the 3rd part of Wintersong's The lost/found series (but to be honest not entirely understanding exactly what's going on in it - like I think I get the gist... the writing is stellar.. I keep reading).

Back to the one I actually finished super quick, by Andrea (its not that long - and its written in a very simple style making it a fast read). It's such a weird feeling when you come across a title and author and you remember having so much fun reading it the first time around, that you can't wait to re-read it but you can't remember what happens: until you read the first paragraph and it all comes rushing back. eventually I'll review the new fic I read for the first time from AO3 prior to re-discovering gossamer still existed )

hopefully she replies my email with a link to AO3 or a pdf or something -- or I can convince her to upload to whispers of X. )

Is it just me, or in the 90s and even til early 2000's people wouldn't ordinarily reference their significant other (unmarried) as partner, but now it's normal and accepted. While in the x-files it was always utilised in the law enforcement sense, if one was to watch the series now, as someone used to identifying a significant other as "partner" the series might have a different feel to it compared to watching it the first time around in the 90s...Or not. Just spitballing here.

Update, the email to Andrea bounced. Figures, since it was a hotmail address.

My dream sequence takes place in the IWTB house.

The house is deep in the forest of Virginia. It is technically owned by a farmer however Mulder bought it and the tiny patch of land off him for eternal use of the house. All around are feilds of corn and wheat. It sits on the corner of a sealed road with a short dusty driveway leading to it's front porch.

It was incase anything like what happened in The Truth happened. They would have somewhere to hide and think. The house had running water gas and electricity all linked to the main farmhouse so it wouldn't seem like it was a private entity.

Rather it looked like an abandoned farm house where the farmer might keep seasonal workers from all walks of life.

The house was shabby on the outside and made of old timber.

The kitchen was on their first floor and had a refrigerator from the 60s still functioning.
Actually the kitchen had gingham curtains.

M and S would use it only in the very early morning to get things out of the refrigerator and prepared most of their meals in their actual living quarters which was in the attic.

The attic had been converted into a lovely apartment with slanted warm wooden beams.

They were afraid to be seen during the day so there was a ladder built into the side of the house that was cleaverly hidden into the grain of the house so you'd only see it if you were directly standing only a foot away from the wall. The ladder lead up onto the roof where there was a small platform.

And on this platform at night when the sky was clear and cloudless, the two of them would sit together and stare at the stars.

For excersize they had a room with a tredmill and VR screens. They could play a view of the feilds they couldn't explore and run, and pretend their problems didn't exist.

They were hiding. From who and what and for how long they didn't know.
