Because I don't value sleep...
Jan. 23rd, 2024 07:26 am8. What is a daily challenge you face as a parent?
When kiddo throws food. She does it particularly when she's done eating and she's just playing with it. It's a daily argument- I can usually see it coming and just remove the food item right before she throws it but sometimes you think - what if she's still hungry and she's about to eat it? -- usually if that's the case she protests extra and you give it back and she'll eat it. But 50% of the time she protests and give it back and it ends up on the floor and you knew you should have trusted your instinct. When is this gonna end and they grow out of it? No idea. I try not to smack her but its so hard because you know what -
she threw a really large spoon in a crowded restaurant recently (because I wasn't sitting next to her to intervene) and by the grace of some unknown power no one happened to be sitting at the table where the spoon ended up flying over -- she has a really strong arm/throw. It was clear across the room. If that hit someone in the head... or face... or fell into someone's food....
I could not imagine...
9. How do you overcome the daily challenge(s)?
We haven't overcome it. Still working on it.
10. What is the best and worst parenting advice you've received?
I don't really look for advice. Sometimes I read things on the fb group for my local area but - I have no idea if they're best or worst just yet.
Best thing I ever did was use white noise to make kiddo sleep. That was an amazing find.
This reminds me- I need to buy a white noise machine and my friend recommended me one she really likes - I can't sacrifice my phone like I did the first time around I don't think. So I'm gonna purchase one. This is what happens when your not sure if your having a second or not... things you wanted to buy with your first but then you think ah - I'll just hold off - and then second one comes and your like "panic I need it now..."
11. Is your parenting style similar to your parents? Describe.
No- I'm actively trying to not do about 50% of the things my parents did. But totally different senario, they were migrants from overseas who not only didn't speak the local language but didn't speak or come from the same culture as each other - so there were barriers and hurdles all over the place. I understand what they did and how they did it - but overall its a totally different situation when you've gone through the entire school system yourself, and actually understand it- and language isn't a barrier, neither is culture, or skin colour or appearance.
I very rarely if at all experience racism - and if my parents did, language barrier and potential self isolation may have prevented realising it.... I turned out okay, Wendy will probably be fine, probably better given her privledge. I want one thing for her that I never got (a sibling) but that could turn out bad as easily as good so... no pressure huh?
12. Who do you confide in on your hard days?
I dunno, Here. Why would I tell anyone else? If your an only child you are self reliant. No one cares about your issues more than yourself. Why burden others. There aren't really any hard days though currently. So I'm being overly dramatic. Its probably the other way around - only children are used to receiving help so they probably look for it more than ones with a billion siblings.
13. What is your favourite thing to do with your child(ren)?
14. What do you want your child to remember most about their childhood?
15. What does a typical weekday and weekend look like for your family?
Weekdays these days -
Kiddo sleeps until 7:30.
Dad goes to work around 6:30 on his bicycle.
I get up around 6-7 depending and check BGL/take insulin/make brekky/eat brekky
Try to do short chores or prepare for the day until Kiddo wakes up.
Kiddo wakes up. Sort her out takes a good 40 mins - nappy off, make and watch her eat brekky (sit next to her and drink tea usually, I can't eat a 2nd brekky that soon and 730 is too late for me personally - sometimes she sleeps in until 8!). Then depending on what's planned, husstle her to the bath room for wiggles, teeth brushing and hair - and I usually do my teeth and hair while she watches wiggles or "doggies" as she calls the program "muster dogs" on TV. Or Koala "Izzy Koala rescue" on Netflix. She seems to gravitate to whatever I pick for her to watch for those 10-20 mins - I don't know if thats a lack of screen time on our part over here or if she genuinely would prefer to watch things about animals. She say's doggy swimming or doggy running or doggy walking or doggy eating when she sees the animals doing certain things on the screen ... 0 screen time for under 2 is achievable, - but do you want to brush Wendy's teeth good luck with no screen.
16. Describe the first moment you saw your child.
The sloppy yoghurt looking covered mess? (Ok I know it's vernix but it really does look like the stickiest yoghurt you ever ... felt?) Smallish head. Looked like what I thought I might have looked like as a newborn.
17. What is most rewarding about being a partner?
It's just nice to have a buddy. And you can share tasks or ask for advice. Pete's very clever and thoughtful so he has really good answers 50% of the time. Depends on the mood. Can't have everything everytime, but he is human...
Going through these: journal prompts
Honestly had to relook at which questions I had answered before ... because I have very little recollection of what I wrote or answered...
