A small do that was made up to call my mum's sisters to meet Wendy.
Initially planned for Saturday but Gi2 Maria works saturdays so I changed it to Sunday.
The cousins didn't come because somehow miscommunication (they weren't free on Saturday but turns out they were free on Sunday) After they rejected the idea for Saturday, I didn't think to invite them to sunday and they thought as I'd specifically called on the aunts - that no one else was invited.
To be fair, Gi2 Ceclia is so covid scared still, I was worried she wouldn't come if there were too many people.

There was also a competing event happening on the other side of Gi2 Maria's family on the same day, complicating a few things (eg. Uncle Rustandy Gi2 Maria was planning to go that one instead - and Ria, was torn about which event to go so decided to go to neither). Since Uncle R wasn't coming I suspected thats why Uncle Joe didn't go either.

Gi2 Manny
Mum's eldest sister.
Very detailed and strong memories about her own journeys with lactation. Her eldest was mix fed and the second - lactation seemed to work. This pervasive ideology of "asians don't make milk" is very strong.
She recounted the story of when I got lost at the yum cha and how she got in so much trouble from my mum when she found out that I had been left behind at the yum cha. I remembered how strongly that memory imbedded in me the importance of remembering phone numbers and even to this day I can recite the phone number of her (then) new house - which on the day led to me being picked up from the yumcha.

Gi2 Manny lives the furtherest away and would have had to drive 30-40 mins to get from her place to my mum's. I hadn't seen her since ... pre pandemic, maybe not since the funeral of ichong (Gi2 Ceclia's husband).

Gi2 Ceclia
Other than a strong belief that letting a baby cry it out as "character building" she recalled a story where her eldest daughter - upon the arrival of her grandmother to the house - said "oh gee it really smells in here", the eldest said (at age 1.5) go home! go home!

Along with the story about how she had mucky eyes as a child and Gi2 Maria informed Lun that she should clean her eyes lest she go blind was then told "That's ok I've still got the other one"; makes me wonder about the state of her residence and housekeeping during her 20s.

She cooked average lemper today, but had also gently burnt the outside of the banana skins to release the oils, which I hadn't seen before.

Gi2 Maria
Cooked a buttload of dishes:
- chicken on lemongrass skewers
- home made (?!!!) tempeh
- rice parcel (? same as from my Dad's funeral = that I didn't get to taste).
Didn't say much.
But I did inform her that I'd be coming to visit her personally because Ria hadn't met Wendy yet.

The cake was an extremely involved recipe that I will lovingly pull out for other special occasions. It took about a day and a half to make but it was absolutely A+ with all steps followed appropriately. I started at 0700 with going to coles and the cake was iced and in the fridge by 22:00 and that's with 1 step (the lemon curd) being made the day prior (which took approx 20 mins with help from my mum).
