when your pt that has been transferred through 2 different hospitals post his motor cycle accident - L1 burst fracture - 7 days bed rest precipitated a submassive PE that was well treated with a transfer to (my) major inner city hospital - and during the night shift wash (which, btw - we always do unless the pt really protests: and even then, we convince them)- tells you at xyz previous hospital he wasn't washed or sheet changed or 5 days.
Instead, he says he stared at the bed washing wipes on the counter, unopened next to his bed and wondered if they were ever going to use them and said he commented to his wife (as at that time they did allow visitors) that he felt stinky. He had quite a thick beard, and I spent a good 10 mins shaving it.
'Cause apparently not one of the nurses that week had the time to do it.
I queried that perhaps the staff at XYZ was super busy and he said they were.
I also queried if they might have watched him and he didn't know: like was he with a breathing tube?
Nope, he wasn't.
GCS 15 whole time.
Meanwhile my other pt, was a really nice guy who said he works as a manager in a glass company. I had to ask him if he watched the Office and if it was at all somewhat similar - he looked slightly confused and was like "not really".
I'd also like to apologise that for the last few shifts I've been calling him Simon even though his name is (something else). I don't know what it is. His real name is just as normal.
He's been there for about a month - with pancreatic problems : ERCP gone wrong (perforated) and required a take back to re-fix the leak.
And somehow his multiple drains aren't enough to clear out the dredge from inside: so this sticky brown thick liquid is seeping out the bottom of his wound. Solution? stick a colostomy bag to it, and pad it with combines.
