Heavy doubles

Hadn't had one in a while so my time was coming. There's a two pt list in small ICU and after
Between Mr 26's second hourly suctioning of fecal matter out of the drain in his abdomen (kid you not) -- he's a long termer >40 day stay in ICU due to cholecystectomy gone wrong.
You'd never think: going into a simple procedure that usually is keyhole and can be day surgery:
that you would end up with a perforated bowel and abdominal sepsis and then endless fistulas leading to open abdomen with vac dressing -- ventilated -- slow ventilatory wean - tracheostomy ....
His wife doesn't speak English but he does, apparently. Hard to tell with the tracheostomy.
Then there was Mrs 25-- was on CRRT on Sunday, and I sat their bored. Trying not to screw up the obs.
Now she's on IHD and somehow. I didn't have a poop or a vomit the whole shift on Sunday.
After "nurse I had an accident"
and "nurse can i have a blanket"
and
"nurse can I have ice"
"nurse can I have pain relief"
(and mind you their both MRSA so that means gown up and gown down to go into each bed space --I tried really hard to cluster cares because that was otherwise going to be unmanageable)
I gave her metaclopramide prior to the AM meds: but clearly, not early enough because then I gave NGT meds 80mls - whilst she of course, was drinking the ice water --
and promptly 10 mins later, threw up about 100mls.
There goes my meds.
It's 07:00 - no longer my problems.
But still. That's frustrating.
And Mr 26 just looks miserable. Poor thing.
I'm starting to really dislike single nights. Used to love them. Now I realised it ruins you for two days (I can't plan anything at SSH on the day of the night shift; nor the day after).
It's the kind of double you throw onto a casual pool staffer -- and that's exactly who I ended up handing over to in the morning. At least Edwin has a tonne of experience.
Butttt! I get to go to the Easter show tomorrow. This is gonna be fun. It was cancelled last year due to covid. I heard it sold out on Good Friday. I don't expect large crowds cause it'll be a Wednesday but still. The ancient MV (RN and RM whose about 75?) might have some interesting antics. I saw her listed down to attend.
