I'm loving this show so hard right now.

I didn't realise Pete was such a big fan until I started watching it and all of a sudden he wanted to watch it too, and then he was starting to schedule times with me for when we can watch it together next -- (like, hey Rita wanna watch more of the office? Oh what your busy right now? oh okay so when will you like, not be busy....) and then now he won't let me watch episodes into the future without him.

My brain is not great on taking in information the first time around so I've already started rewatching s1/2.

We're about mid season 3 now.

I heart Pam and Jim so hard it's not funny.

Also, I sorta don't want them to get together because that'll ruin the fun that is all about the lead up.

The characters are pretty awesome and it's really amazing writing. The acting is great - but honestly if the writing wasn't so good and so painful : it just wouldn't be the show that it is.

I'm also learning a lot from the show.

As someone who has only really ever worked as an assistant nurse, or an RN - and now RM (and previous to that it was fast food, or a graduation gown store on campus, and a few data entry shifts where I literally wanted to poke my eye out with a stick it was so boring) - I have essentially no idea what it is like to work in an office environment, let alone a small one - and to see how important those relationships can become in such a closed environment.

Pete says the show is a microcosm and an exaggeration but that despite those; they do ring true.

The office candle.

Honestly: no idea that was a thing, according to Pete it is. My other accounting friends say no... But what do I know.

Or those crazy parties they always have. There's literally a party every few episodes for any dumb idea that crosses their paths.

In the hospitals I've ever worked in (and it's starting to stack up) - there's only ever been one party.

Christmas.

They tried to bring in little morning tea for those finishing the transition to ICU RN (IP) program. I finished, no one congratulated me. The was no morning tea and there was no certificate. Until 5 years later, one of the educators found it buried in a file in the office and messaged me if I wanted it (no it's not an accredited program but it's run to a similar caliber as to when it was once previous accredited- and yes I wanted my laminated cert, thanks).

Maybe if someone whose been there a while is leaving or is having a baby they might collect for a morning tea (at the expense of the staff) or people bring in a plate - these are things that covid has ruined for us btw since we're technically not allowed to have them - but staff have been going around it.

Like Jenny's famous gingerbread men she bakes yearly. She went out of her way to individually wrap each cookie, so that we could all still enjoy her baked treats in a "covid-safe" way. And Sally, who makes noodles for us: individually boxed portions so she could still do that.

I think if covid was worse in Australia all bets would be off, and people wouldn't be doing such things but that being said: My SF friend Rosy told me today about A hospital worker? (could be any profession) bounced around in a Christmas costume of whose construction caused a super spreading covid event. Clearly, the outbreak is worse in the US and still... this happens...

Anyhow. I digress.

The Office is a cool show. I'd binge watch it harder if Pete wasn't drip feeding me episodes (3 or so every 2-3 days). I'd probably not sleep just to finish it.

It's better this way. Build up more Jim and Pam suspense.

The other day I actually wondered if there was any Jim and Pam fanfiction. I'm sure it would be terrible. I haven't looked.

I could never get into The Office but Pam/Jim was a very popular pairing. At AO3, I would start at the back page and work forward. Why? More fics by older, more experienced, more talented writers, imho, due to the age of the fandom and the archive. YMMV.

I'd probably start with the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van recs. I recognized nearly all of the authors, which is a good sign.

Voleuse is good, Annakovsky and obsession_inc are both excellent, sofiahelix is very good, too. Maidenjedi. They were all in XF fandom (and many other fandoms too).

There are recs aplenty at [community profile] fancake and [community profile] crack_van. It's not a mega-fandom but you should be able to find some good-to-excellent fic for that pairing.
