The new meaning behind "chipfic"

What a humdinger of a story.
Other than my disdain for Diana Fowley because back when I was originally a fan (like in the 2000s) I had my head so far up the MSR dream I literally couldn't look at her. Now, 20 years later on the rewatch of the show - being able to be so distant is a real blessing because it has let me enjoy fic I'm sure I would have written off back in the day.
Once again, reading with no blurb. The story starts with "Chapter one" so literally, I had no idea where it was going (just trust Syn, she knows what she's doing) - and there was a rather large portion of Diana Fowley (but so nicely written I just couldn't resist) and midway the story just takes off.
It has murder, Skinner being a bro, Mulder being the hero and Scully grappling with the CSM all in one story that took about 5 hours to read (non stop once I hit midway).
Ending so neatly into S7 Requiem.
What a treat.
My only negative is that surely, Mulder would have gotten some charges for what he did to Riviera.
But we don't read stories like this to have that much realism.
I can't scorecard this. It's A+++ for all counts.
This goes on my top 10 list

Have you read any of her mystery crime novels?
Sorry I missed this post in 2020. I think my husband had just gotten--or was getting--diagnosed with a single lung met.

Date: 2024-04-15 02:01 am (UTC)Lately, not even fanfic. When i wrote/ was rereading syntax6, i was on a binge roll of fanfic. I read so hard and fast until i literally ran out of things to read and then had that crash ending feeling you get when finishing a large body of work.
Then i had Wendy and havent read anything since. There was a sci fi novel on my list to get at the local library but i dont know if ill actually end up reading it :/. Its some dystopian thing that won awards... (In the last 5 years or so). Pete my partner still reads. Kids hasnt slowed him down too much it seems.

Date: 2024-04-15 10:23 am (UTC)I'll write about that sci fi if I get to the part where I actually read it. I want to go to the library tomorrow and renew an overdue book about Indonesian language, and return this terribly awful Wiggles book that has no storyline that Wendy likes. Surely there will be another book for her to like in there.
