GDM

Did you know that your supposed to inject actrapid/novorapid or wait 15- 20 mins before eating. What if its AM insulin and your super dooper starving. Those 15 mins feel like forever.

At work- we never know when the food cart is about to arrive so we check and give the insulin right when it arrives.

Because: lets say you checked the BGL and then according to the sliding scale charted your meant to give 6U or whatever. What if the cart is 1 hr away instead of 15 mins away? Then what do you do.

Then we check the next BGL and wonder why its still up even though we gave as charted. They're all just bloody guessing what to write, pulling numbers out of I don't know what - and its no wonder since we're giving something subcut and expecting it to work immediately.

Then you gotta always remember to take your insulin everywhere you go. We're going away this weekend (ah the joys of being 30 and not having a mortgage... it's a real blessing) -- and 2 nights before I packed my insulin back into my handbag out of the cupboard incase I forgot. Don't really wanna drive 3 hours to retrieve it.

I ate chinese BBQ pork for dinner last night and scored a high BGL.
Damn they must bathe their meat in a lot of sugar.

No wonder Wendy liked it so much. I kept chopping her up the pork and she kept asking for "more".

Dad eats hotcross buns in front of her before dinner and I don't understand why he can't wait until after she goes to bed - but then also, I can't eat hot cross buns either. Thanks, GDM. At least, however, it is not forever.

Apparently it could be only a week away til induction, which would make it 38+4

7 days until a hot cross bun... lolz.

I'm more afraid of other things. Like future irreparable pelvic dysfunction.

lolz. hot cross bun in exchange for life altering disability ...

Not really a fair comparison.

If I didn't have GDM I'd be trying to bake my own hot cross buns. Where you can alter the ingredients and choose your ingredients

But in the life of GDM it wouldn't matter - I would have to substitute fruit or rice or bread for a bun. It's not really a decent swap.

It's like eating a salad with a chocolate cake.

You'd get no pleasure out of the chocolate cake - you'd be hungry 1 hr later and then you'd have nothing to eat and a high BGL on the machine.

The diabetes educator asked me to participate in a socioeconomic survey.

In later appt she asked me if I did it and we talked about how in pregnancy, many people can't be bothered cooking and shopping from scratch (and especially if you have multiple children) take away food seems so convenient - which it is - but also, damn expensive.

But then time for cooking and cleaning is also expensive. In GDM you gotta eat at home or it's gonna be extra hard to control. I think Wendy eats better for it- since I don't bother cooking 2 sets of rice. And I buy the GDM friendly bread and she eats it just fine. I don't buy 2 types of bread.

I still want that hot cross bun next week, though. Just one. With butter. and a cup of tea. Like a proper cup of tea. With milk. Like the dead Queen.

I heard Americans can't make tea. Something about boiling water in a microwave?

I want ice cream. Like real ice cream. Not some $12 for a tiny tub full of who knows what BS "keto ice cream" which btw - I've tried and tastes delicious.

I want mangos. Not like, one tiny slice. Like a whole mango, to myself. Fresh. Cut up,- and I want to cut it myself so I can suck on the stupid pip and scrape the flesh off the skin with my tongue. No I'm not scared of "coughing" (mangos make my mother cough but she eats them anyway - and especially the part of the fruit's flesh near where the meat of the mango meets the stem.

My mum doesn't recognise it as an allergy, but I do.

She claims the mangos from her tree this week gave her dihorrea - due to fruit fly - and I was reading if you ingest the larvae of the fruit fly then yes, this is possible.

Yuck.

She wants to make jam out of the mango.

Luckily, Wendy didn't eat mango when she was at my Mum's house this week. She wanted pear.

LOL the little shit wants stuff thats not in season - or hard to find this time of year. Although, we had pears at home this week because I found some for $2 a kg and also --

I want pears. not like, one slice. Like a whole one. And I don't want to have to swap it out for the rice or bread of one meal.
(like half a cup of rice at meal time and half a pear later)

Like no.

I just want a damn pear - one of those really juicy ones - where it's like almost fruit fly territory (yuck... larvae...) except it's been in the fridge. So it's cold (I usually like room temperature fruit due to sensitive teeth but - beggars can't be choosers and fruit flies).

I want a croissant at that new croissant place in Leichhardt where the owner has clearly hired a bunch of reject models (so pretty good looking people) and every person in there has their clearly curated instagram on their resume.

Not - a bite out of my friend's croissant, of whom I would have happily paid for her croissant and coffee.

The croissants in Australia are terrible (compared to French ones) and that makes me sad. Cause its not like I could even get a good one anyway.

The almond ones are always passable but that double baking method sorta negates the magic of how do the croissants in France get so damn crispy?! My cousin says its the flour which can't be imported over to here.

Sucks when you want mediocre.

I didn't even loose any weight this time around with GDM. It's been all restriction and no payoff.

Well. Supposedly you get a normal baby instead of one plagued with hypos and medical use of formula and a special care nursery stay and an increased chance of vaginal birth .... less birth trauma...

You know, all those other things that are more important than real ice creams and hot cross buns...

At least all pregnant women are advised not to have the soft serve at Maccas.

Cause that would be real injustice.
lolz.
