whitewriter So it's been a month (yay) but then also. Jeeze. Only a month? lol. Supposedly time flies. Doesn't quite feel like it does.
Mostly because she's taken to sleeping on me, and it seems, mot even Grandma's special touch makes her sleep anymore. I'm the only one who uses the baby sling to great effect which means - I haven't had a 3 hour stretch of sleep since Pete went back to work (Tuesday) and now it's Thursday.
I get 2 hours.
The sling got me cocky on Wed when it worked so well. I managed to get her in. Soothe her, and then take her out and put her to bed and she slept 3 hours during her cranky period (1800 or 1900 - 2300)
So rather than sucking at the breast for 3 hours (I have teflon nipples) - We managed with 1.
Miracle. We even had couples time, for the first time since the day before I went in for the induction (you know, cause that would have been the last time I had a "pre baby" lady bit down there lol)
Then I think due to that long break from sucking my breast got confused and we had a horrid night, with a hard part in the L) boob (the good one) - and today I've been plagued with some odd shooting nipple pain in the R) boob after feeding for approx 10 min -- I don't feel any lumps, I don't see any redness (I thought I did but i think its from when I massaged milk out overnight) it's not constant, its mid feed, the latch is average -- not as good as on the left. I'm suspecting minute nipple trauma.
The breasts are well drained as far as I can tell, they're nice and soft most of the time. I haven't really had a chance to accumilate milk like I did before when I'd get 3 hour stretch of sleep as Pete was using EBM. Now, I'm lucky to get 2. I'm only pumping when I sense an issue is about to arise or I feel a breast hasn't drained well, or her feed seems short -- which
They have been. Getting shorter, and she, more unsettled to an extent afterwards.
So. She eats from both sides, 10 to 20 mins (varying lengths depending) then takes at least 30 mins to settle, and I swear last night, putting her to bed was like how Dea described it perfectly -
It's like putting a bomb to bed.
Literally.
You pat it and swing it and she sleeps and looks angelic and you hold her for up to 20 or 30 mins. Then you ever so slowly, get up, tiptoe to the cot. Sit on the edge of the bed, watch her every little move for signs she's not asleep - so very gently place her into the cot - and start patting away, all looks good she still looks asleep, you pat for another 10 or 20 mins, still good.
okay. Phew Now you go pee.
Go pee. get to the bathroom
WAH!!!!

Fucking delayed bomb goes off.
Start the process again. I offer the breast, she might take it for 5 mins or 10 or 20 mins -- if it's 5 mins then I doubt she was hungry -
this went on, all the way from the 1800 feed, to the 2200 feed when I realised, jeeze we've been at it for 3 hours so by now, she's due right -- so I can't keep going back to settling cause we passed that phase already. So we start again. With a nappy change, and a feed, and back again to the patting. Me trying to avoid the sling because its just so hard to get her out once she's in and asleep its easier to just let her sleep in there.
Course the negative of that is. I can't sleep.
Pete's gonna have to start wearing the baby, thats the only hope I can foresee.
I was shocked at the effectiveness of the sling I thought that maybe the sling dulles hunger cues. Maybe, she's starving in there and how would I know if she's asleep but my Canadian cousin Christina who has used the sling with her 2nd child assured me that Wendy would definitely let me know she was hungry.
She sleeps oddly. Crying out (loudly). But then resettling. Makes you question everything.

I'm tempted to get a dummy. My nipples are for food. Some comfort. But they're not a chew toy. Then again will a dummy teach her what a chew toy is...
