I aim to come early to my shifts at SSH because I want to
get into the midwifery mindset
research and develop ideas
focus on policy and procedures I haven't had the time to look into (but wanted to) on my last shift.

I probably should have done this when I was at the initial start of my graduate rotation, however in hindsight I think I was too shocked and overwhelmed with both survival and 5x8 hour shifts that instead I regressed into (of all things) the X-files.

That period has ended.

Back to the point that maternal-infant bonding is disrupted when a woman has a cesarean section v. vaginal delivery, it has been found in a study of 573 women given a questionnaire on the 2nd day postpartum, that women experienced significantly altered bonding in women who underwent an emergency C-section v. those who had elective C-section or a vaginal birth. The authors hypothesize that when NVB is considered the norm and expected outcome that a change in plans impacts the woman's feelings towards her baby (Zanardo et al. 2016).
