Fathoms Five by Penumbra
Penumbra classifies it as baby fic but I would rather classify it as future fic. In it S is 65 and the realities of immortality gained by Scully on her journey with Felig come to light [ at least, that's how I read the story - Penumbra doesn't fully explain it ] in a depression of sorts. It's hard to tell in the story what miracle exactly they refer to at the end (a 2nd pregnancy??) or if Penumbra is simply referring to William who is now 18 or so and about to go to Oxford for studies. His cousin Mathew and a random neighbourhood girl who has become like n adopted sister traipse through their last summer as a family before the inevitable split that comes with kids growing older. Throughout the story is all about looking back to the past whilst looking forward. You would never know that it was written in 2009.
Seems like fandom was strong. I can't remember if I was reading ff in 2009. I remember writing my thesis on Bordetella pertussis, and spending a lot of time reading spoilers and giggling on the boards - but that was it.
Not sure I loved the story as a whole but I loved the writing and the ways in which Penumbra fleshed out the history of M and S through the mouths of babes.
