Happy mothers day to all the mothers out there!

Pete made big breakfast with the whole shebang - toast (with butter) egg, sausage, bacon, hash brown, tomato, mushroom, juice and the kid cooperated annnd he ate with me (which is much nicer than eating alone) so all around it was a really nice morning.

My dad used to like big breakfast and he'd cook it on occasion. My mum hated it (I think too much of a hardcore Asian - and a dislike of someone in her kitchen) and wouldn't eat it (oily? she'd say) but I'd ask for a tomato. my favourite thing in the whole plate and my dad would begrudgingly give it to me.

When I was 7 or 8, I had the Woman's Weekly kids cookbook which I started making a few things out of - I decided to make something for Mother's day and I picked what I thought was the easiest thing with ingredients that we already had - Cinnamon toast. I didn't ask for help ( and neither was any offered ) - I got up early and made it and I remember getting a "it's not good to eat in bed" and ... what is this type of reaction and so I never made any again for any other Mother's day.

I complained to Pete's buddy Den that when you have a baby your IQ drops significantly and he said, he understands. He gave this analogy that demonstrated that somehow, even though he hasn't experienced it - he has in some ways experienced it. He said, going through military training in Taiwan, they want to make you stupid on purpose. That pre military training, his brain felt much faster but then during training, he struggled to make decisions or to make simple calculations (like 1+1=2). He said this was done by the training on purpose because they don't want you to make your own decisions, they want you to follow blindly- any instructions or the needs of the team/army as required.

Just as a baby wants their needs to be obeyed.... nature brings on the same mentality in the mother. The baby brain is legit. Supposedly it lasts 2 years.

Yikes.
