Moustash lady and the day before nights

Fudge Sticks I overloaded my day before night shift

I spent way too much time writing up the week that was. My bad. I should have gotten them done at the time, would have been better.

So by the time I went on the walk/jog (in the smog of backburns, mind you ... probably should have gone to the gym... but the trouble of getting there is quite inconvenient)

it was 12, which meant I was back by 13:00 which meant I had 2 hours to do all my errands (and I only got to 2/4 of them).

I stumbled upon the Food Pantry in the inner west. I'd heard of it but never been.

It's like legit bin diving.

Stores with excess stock donate groceries which are then sold at a discount for use with those who cannot afford food.

Fruit and vegetables are free if you spend more than $5.

I easily spent $55 on out of date muesli bars for the Oxfam trail training hikes I have coming up, almost out of date marshmallows (can those things go out of date!?) for the camping trip in 2 weeks, dubious looking (but turned out to be great) out of date tomato juice, 2 dark chocolate lindt bunnies I didn't need,

some lemon and honey in a jar drink thing I also didn't need, some latina pasta because it was there, some free range chicken thing cause it was out of date that day -

Got 2 free giant loaves of really nice sour dough - and a free frozen meal thats still sitting in my freeze.

So by the time I got home, I had to do a huge cookup.

My fridge was empty so perfect timing.

Opening hours of the pantry means that most of its shoppers looked like pensioners.

I got free mushrooms, and a mini pumpkin that looks so cute, and coriander! (which was slightly wilted but still good). A lot of overripe unsellable bananas.

I froze the bananas for smoothies. I chopped the mushrooms and cooked it with onion and then cooked that in posh organic tomato sauce in a jar which was out of date (so I got it for a few dollars)

and put that on the pasta.

Cooked the chicken in coriander, and an old lemon I had to use up.

All in all I made about 4 pasta meals and 3 chicken meals in their container.

I've been trying to not eat a lot of bread (says me who just had 3 brownies on night shift)

So I had to store it in the freezer. Plus Mr Pete who says he's on "Keto" but then eats bread and chocolate... (don't ask, it pisses me off when he snubbs a cucumber or a tomato but is like oh chocolate!- come on)

Which means I needed to make those wax wraps to store all that bread into portioned slices- that I had been promising myself I'd make since last year in November.

I even had the wax ready and the material (not cut) -- but by the time I cut the material and was using the oven (perfect timing) - so whilst the pumpkin and sweet potato I'd gotten from the Pantry was roasting,

I was using the same heat to make the wax wraps to save the free bread I'd gotten).

I made about 8 wax wraps. and 2 wax bags I had sown in January but hadn't dipped in the wax yet. I used up all the wax I had (which means, next time I get a chance I'll be back at my wax man in Newtown to get more sheets). So by the time I'd cut the material and dipped it into the wax (which isn't too much work but it is time consuming--

It was 17:00

Work starts at 19:30 which means leave home at 19:00

Which means get up by 18:30 to put on one's uniform.

By the time I got into bed.... I probably got an hour's sleep (usually I get 3).

Its 05:23 now and this is one way to stay awake...

I have to remember to eat all the meals I made (instead of the junk at work)...

My pt what she had told her son was : a"tiny mass" that is actually a huge cancer thats spread beyond the bladder and into the peritoneum and bowel and perforated the bowel..

Causing sepsis in a 69 year old woman who tried to ignore the problem.

Now she's ventilated, and on noradrenaline and has two nephrostomy tubes L and R to drain her L and R kidneys... and a stoma...

all of which is planned to be reversible if she will consent to another surgery.

Apparently she's stubborn.

She has a beard.

A full beard with a long moustash like you'd see on a man. I love shaving mLe patients if they will let me (or if it looks like they are normally clean shaven whilst intubated) but ... think we'll just leave this one until she wakes up. I have no idea what her feelings are towards her moustash.

And a huge rash of unknown cause all over he body.

Dermatology isn't interested because theres no pustules or "desquamation" (which I had to look up and basically means peeling)

and no blisters.

She's not small either. The admission weight listed is 98 kg but I'm willing to bet she's at least 110kg

Course I also had line change due

And I had a nursing student from my old alma mater. She looked like a potential international student but I didn't want to ask because they have a had time getting a job in the public system after graduation.

I had one hour to teach her something about ICU and since my line change was due, I offered to show her how to change an arterial line.
